ANDERSON, Ind. (AP) – A central Indiana couple have received probation in a plea bargain after more than 170 dead animals were found on their farm.
Daniel and Carrie Ault of Summitville both pleaded guilty to four counts of improper disposal of a dead animal. Prosecutors agreed to dismiss all other counts against the couple, who originally were charged with 96 counts of improper disposal, 15 counts of animal cruelty and two counts of child neglect after the animals were found rotting on their farm 70 miles northeast of Indianapolis farm in April 2013.
A judge sentenced Daniel Ault to two years on probation and Carrie Ault to one year.
Nearly 50 members of the animal rights group Animal Protection League gathered in a hallway outside the courtroom to protest the plea agreement.
