Armed robbery suspect found dead behind McDonald’s in Marion

MARION, Ind. (WOWO): A robbery suspect was found dead in a wooded area behind a Marion McDonald’s on Friday morning.

At about 10 p.m. Thursday, Marion police responded to a call about an armed robbery at a McDonald’s Restaurant at 2006 S. Western Avenue, according to the Marion Police Facebook page.

As officers arrived, the armed suspect was leaving the restaurant with stolen cash and ran towards the parking lot. Officers released a K9. The dog was able to catch the suspect and bite him at least twice.

Police said the suspect fired his gun and shot the dog in the left leg. Officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect as he continued to run into a wooded area. At some point, the officers lost the suspect.

A helicopter used to use a thermal tracking device to help officers find him. Search crews found the deceased suspect at about 7:05 a.m. Friday.

The K9 received treatment at the scene. No one else was injured during the incident.

It’s not clear how the suspect died.
