Baseball Complex Goes before Legacy Fund Committee

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A local group is meeting with Fort Wayne's legacy committee Wednesday night, hoping to play ball.

Leaders with the World Baseball Academy say they need City Legacy Funds to make that a reality.

The academy is looking for help with a $6.5 million baseball complex. The baseball hot spot, they say, could attract national tournaments and generate revenue for the city. They are asking for $1.6 million in grants for the two-phased project. Under a $3 dollar to $1 dollar fund condition, they'd still need to raise $4.8 million to secure the funds.

The group says the facility would include youth and high school baseball diamonds. Later, they want to add a college field.

Right now officials say they have about $714 thousand pledged.
