Busy Memorial Day Travel Weekend Planned

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The summer travel season kicks off this weekend and it could be the busiest in years.

The AAA Hoosier Motor Club is predicting about 823,000 residents will travel 50 miles or more this holiday weekend, which is an increase of over 40,000 travelers from the year before and is the highest volume for holiday travel since 2005. Lower gas prices and a stronger employment market mean more people are willing to hit the road.

However, to ensure safe travel, Indiana State Troopers will be out and about during the “Click It or Ticket” campaign, making sure travelers are buckled up.
