INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (AP): Some of Indiana’s political leaders have signed a letter asking for a meeting with executives of Carrier Corp. about the company’s plans to close its Indianapolis plant.
Carrier Corp. said it would shutter its Indianapolis plant employing 1,400 workers and move its manufacturing to Mexico. The plant’s workers would be laid off over three years starting in 2017.
United Technologies Electronic Controls also announced last week it will move its Huntington manufacturing operations to a new plant in Mexico, costing the city 700 jobs by 2018.
Pence says he and other Indiana politicians have decided to reach out and “work toward a solution to preserve these jobs in Indiana.”
