Catholic Bishop Has Collarbone Surgery

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP): The Roman Catholic bishop for much of northern Indiana is recovering after surgery to repair a broken collarbone.

A spokesman for Fort Wayne-South Bend Bishop Kevin Rhoades says he was injured in a fall Sunday night while he was on his way to Washington, D.C., for meetings with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.

Diocesan spokesman Sean McBride says that Rhoades returned to Fort Wayne on Wednesday and underwent surgery Thursday.

McBride says the bishop's surgery was successful and that he plans to keep his upcoming schedule.

The 55-year-old Rhoades has been the Fort Wayne-South Bend bishop since 2010 after five years as the bishop in Harrisburg, Pa.
