CRANE, Ind. (AP) _ A caravan with Gov. Mike Pence and others has ceremonially opened the newest section of the Interstate 69 extension through southwestern Indiana.
Numerous state and local officials took part in an event Wednesday marking the completion of the 27-mile section from near the Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center to Indiana 37 just south of Bloomington.
Pence drove a state transportation department pickup truck through a ribbon stretched across the roadway, followed by dozens of other vehicles in the caravan. The highway department is set to open the section to the public later Wednesday.
The section was first scheduled for completion a year ago, but that was pushed back because of weather and construction delays.
A 67-mile stretch of the I-69 extension opened in 2012 between Evansville and Crane.
