SPENCER, Ind. (AP): Authorities say a 1-year-old child died after being found unresponsive in a small pond near the family's rural central Indiana home.

The Owen County Sheriff's Department says a woman reported her child was reported missing Monday from the family's home near Spencer. Police say a neighbor found the child a short time later in a small homemade pond.

Police say the child wasn't breathing and was pronounced dead at a Bloomington hospital.

Information about the child's identity wasn't immediately released.
