Club Unhappy Over City Stance on MLK Drive

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) _ Members of a South Bend men’s club say they’re frustrated by conditions Mayor Pete Buttigieg is placing on relocation of a road named for slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.

Members of the Martin Luther King Jr. Senior Men’s Club are questioning why the mayor wants them to show support from property owners affected by the move when they already did that.

The South Bend Tribune reports the club wants the road moved to a more prominent location. Buttigieg says he supports the idea but wants to see support from businesses and residents along the route.

Club president Robert Smith says the group has been lobbying the city for a more prominent location for the drive since 2005 and canvassed churches and business in 2007.
