Construction Barge Smashes Into Dam

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO):  A construction barge has broke loose on the St. Joe River in Fort Wayne, slamming into the dam near Johnny Appleseed Park.

The barge full of construction debris broke away from it's construction site around 2:30 p.m. and floated down the river towards the St. Joseph River Dam.  It eventually collided, but luckily city officials say it appears there's no damage to the dam.  However one of the main concerns for city officials is that this area is the main source for the city filtration plant.

Our partners in news at 21 Alive tells us that city emergency crews were left to fix the problem by themselves.  The construction company could not be reached.
