INDIANAPOLIS (NETWORK INDIANA) — Joseph Corcoran, a death row inmate scheduled for execution next week, has filed a lawsuit against Indiana’s Department of Corrections. The lawsuit challenges the department’s decision to deny his request to have a spiritual advisor present during his execution.

Corcoran’s wife, Tahina, and his attorney, Larry Komp, filed the complaint in federal court. The couple married in 2004 but divorced in 2007.

The lawsuit names several Indiana officials, including IDOC Commissioner Christina Reagle, Chief Legal Officer Anna Quick, and Indiana State Prison Warden Ron Neal.

Corcoran, a lifelong Christian, has been meeting regularly with his spiritual advisor, Rev. David Leitzel, a Wesleyan minister. Their relationship has spanned decades, starting when Corcoran was a child.

Seems like a very dumb move on the part of the officials named, if true. OR it could be just another scheme to delay the inevitable justice.
