Coyote Healing Up After 4-story Fall in NW Indiana

GARY, Ind. (AP) – A young coyote is healing up from a broken leg it suffered after it jumped from the fourth floor of a northwestern Indiana parking garage while trying to escape capture.

Yolanda Thigpen says she saw the coyote staring at her after she parked Tuesday morning in the downtown Gary garage.

Thigpen tells the Post-Tribune (http://trib.in/12sS4xf ) she called police right away, but the dispatcher at first didn't sound like she believed her. The coyote fell to the sidewalk after police and animal control officers tried to catch it.

The coyote was taken to Westchester Animal Clinic in Porter. Veterinary assistant Becky Bolton says the juvenile female's right front leg is in a splint but she's otherwise healthy. The clinic plans to release her once she recovers.
