FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP): The Jewish Federation of Fort Wayne plans to collect donations to help pay for damage after more than 50 headstones were vandalized.

Volunteers at the Fort Wayne Jewish Cemetery found the headstones toppled over on Monday.

Police said some headstones were severely damaged by at least two people who apparently walked through kicking them over sometime in January. Before Monday, cemetery workers had last been there on Jan. 7.

The repair costs are estimated at $20,000.

Police said they found no graffiti or other indicators that led them to believe the cemetery was targeted because it is a Jewish cemetery.

The Jewish Federation said it hopes to collect enough money to also improve security at the cemetery.
