EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP): Work is being done to repair levees around Evansville that were damaged by the Ohio River's prolonged high water levels in 2011.

Evansville levee authority superintendent Jay Perry says the high water rose above the large rocks that protect the riverbank and exposed the earthen portion of the levees to erosion.

Perry says that the erosion didn't pose any immediate danger to the levee safety but it needs to be repaired.

The National Weather Service says the Ohio River stayed above flood stage for 31 days in April and May 2011.

Perry says repairs were made earlier to flood gates that cracked when Ohio River floodwaters backed up into Pigeon Creek west of the city's downtown.
