600 People Back on Jobs at N. Ind.’s Grissom Base

PERU, Ind. (WOWO): Some 600 Air Force reservists and civilian employees are back on the job at northern Indiana's Grissom Air Reserve Base.

Those employees returned to work Monday after four days on furlough last week because of the partial federal government shutdown.

Those furloughs ended with Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel's weekend decision to recall most of the military's civilian workers based on a Pentagon legal interpretation of a law passed by Congress shortly before the shutdown began.

Grissom spokesman Sgt. Mark Orders-Woempner says workers were glad to come back after being notified on Sunday.
