Ex-Indianapolis police officer faces 4 felony drug charges

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ A former Indianapolis police officer faces four felony drug charges after he was arrested for dealing and possessing cocaine.

Nikolas Layton was charged Friday with one count each of dealing and possession of cocaine and two counts of conspiracy to deal. Two others, 41-year-old Veronica Purdy and 33-year-old Christopher Reed, faces additional drug counts.

Layton resigned from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department after his arrest Tuesday. He was a 10-year veteran assigned to the police department's hit-and-run investigation unit and the son of Marion County Sheriff John Layton.

An attorney for Nikolas Layton declined to comment to The Indianapolis Star (http://indy.st/1PARNJi) on Friday night.

It wasn't immediately known whether Purdy and Reed have attorneys who can comment on their behalf.
