Father Sentenced in Daughter’s Shooting Death

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): It's 16 years in prison for a Fort Wayne man charged with firing the shots that killed his 5-year-old daughter in February.

In Superior Court Friday, Judge Fran Gull called the actions of thirty-eight year-old Toney White II, “Idiotic” an effort to clearly avoid using the term accidental.

According to the Journal-Gazette, Gull challenged that accidents are unavoidable. The judge criticized White's claims saying his daughter died because of his reckless actions. The shooting clearly could have been avoided.

During the case, prosecutors said White who was recently paroled from prison, purchased the gun, a clear violation of his probation. They also pointed to another pair of guns in the home.

White will serve six years for reckless homicide and 10 more for firearms charges. He is also required to finish the remaining 18 months of a narcotics conviction. He pleaded guilty to the charges in June.
