Final Public Meeting Set on Higher South Shore Line Fares

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (AP) – South Shore Line riders have one last chance to voice their opinions on proposed increased train fares.

The final public meeting on the issue is Monday night in Michigan City. 

The proposal would increase a one-way fare from Hammond to Chicago to $6 from $5.25. A ticket from South Bend to Chicago would cost $13 compared to the current price of $11.75. 

WNDU-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1JkCNNX ) the increased fares would go into effect July 1 if they're approved.

The train line stretches from South Bend to Chicago.
