Five Month Investigation Leads to 11 Felony Charges and Two Arrests

PERU, Ind (WOWO): A five month long prescription fraud investigation by Indiana State Police resulted in the arrests of 36-year-old Gypsy Shelton, of Lagro and 23-year-old Emily Felton, of Marion.

The pair faces a combined total of 11 felony charges in three different counties.

According to police, a lady reported to a local pharmacy that someone was illegally getting prescription medications by using her name. The pharmacy reported the alleged crime to the Indiana State Police.

Further investigation revealed that Shelton, who was working as a medical assistant for Dukes Medical Group, allegedly called in or wrote fraudulent prescriptions for Lortab. She supposedly used the names of family members and friends at pharmacies in Wabash and Miami Counties.

Shelton was arrested and is facing charges for conspiracy to commit dealing, among several other charges. She was also served a Wabash Superior Court arrest warrant alleging felony counts of forgery of prescription for legend drugs and obtaining a controlled substance by fraud or deceit. She has since bonded out of jail on both warrants.

Felton allegedly picked up the illegal prescriptions ordered by Shelton. Felton was allegedly given some of the Lortab for having picked up the drugs. Felton is currently incarcerated in the Wabash County Jail.
