Fort Wayne officials seek to ease fears of water contamination

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): It’s a disaster in Flint, Michigan, but can it happen here?

That’s the question posed to Fort Wayne officials by our news partners at 21Alive, but they say there’s no need to worry. Water Superintendent Chet Shastri says they take all of the necessary steps to make sure the city’s water is safe to drink, and there are plans in place to prevent what’s happening in Flint, where officials are accused of taking shortcuts that led to large amounts of lead contamination.

Locally, there have been efforts to help those impacted.  The Fort Wayne chapter of the Red Cross has sent volunteers to help distribute water in Flint, and officials at the Renaissance Point YMCA are also asking for water donations to send there.
