MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (AP) _ A freight train derailment in Michigan City could disrupt commuter rail service in northern Indiana into the weekend.
The Times in Munster reports the trail carrying coal derailed about 5:30 a.m. Friday. Some of the cars landed on their sides and spilled their loads.
Spokesman John Parsons of the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation district says the derailment also damaged wires needed to operate South Shore commuter rail trains.
South Shore trains had begun moving on one track through Michigan City about two hours after the derailment, but riders faced delays.
