General Assembly Returns June 17 for Technical Day

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Members of the Indiana General Assembly will return for one day next month to make technical corrections to some key legislation they passed earlier this year.

A criminal sentencing overhaul passed earlier this year accidentally softened penalties for some serious crimes. In another bill, a new tax was accidentally established on alternative fuels.

A so-called “technical correction'' day will be held June 17 to fix those errors. Legislative leaders approved the one-day meeting Wednesday when they met to assign issues to summer study committees.

“Technical correction'' days more often are called to overturn gubernatorial vetoes, but Gov. Mike Pence didn't veto any legislation this year.
