INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Indiana Gov. Mike Pence says he believes local school officials should make decisions about school security rather than being required to have an employee armed with a loaded gun during school hours.
 
  Indiana would become the first state in the country to require armed school employees if the bill approved this week by a state House committee becomes law.
 
  Pence said Thursday that improving school security is a high priority and he supports increasing funding and training for such efforts.
 
  Supporters of the requirement say it would lessen the vulnerability of schools to violent attacks.
 
  Indiana Senate President Pro Tem David Long also said Thursday that schools shouldn’t face a mandate to have armed personnel.
