CARMEL, Ind. (AP): A regional electric grid management organization has announced plans to invest $30 million into its headquarters in suburban Indianapolis and add up to 84 jobs by 2020.

Midcontinent Independent System Operator Inc. said Thursday it also plans to reconfigure its 133,000-square-foot Carmel facility to increase efficiency.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. is offering MISO up to $1.6 million in conditional tax credits and $100,000 in training grants.

MISO, a not-for-profit organization, has 940 employees nationwide, including more than 700 in Indiana. It was approved as the nation’s first regional transmission organization in 2001.

MISO oversees high-voltage power lines in 15 U.S. states and the Canadian province of Manitoba.
