<p>NEW ALBANY, Ind. (AP) – A southern Indiana historical society is urging the city of New Albany to keep an iconic steamboat image as part of its city seal.

The News and Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1ai8JXE ) the Floyd County Historical Society recently passed a resolution asking New Albany's city council to reaffirm that the city's official seal continue to include an image of the Robert E. Lee steamboat.

That steamboat was built in the Ohio River city in 1866, and society Vice President Vic Meginity says the group is “very proud of our steamboat-building past.''

The society is alarmed that an anchor instead of the steamboat recently appeared on city utility bills. 

But New Albany's director of economic development, David Duggins, says the rendering is only a marketing tool and the city's seal hasn't changed.
