INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ A statewide count shows homelessness has increased among Indiana military veterans while the number of homeless families with dependent children has fallen by nearly a quarter from last year.

The number of households with dependent children fell 23 percent from last year to 739 and the number of homeless children under 18 topped 1,500.

The number of homeless veterans increased by 12 percent to a total of 743.
