WHITLEY COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): An Illinois man is facing multiple charges after allegedly leading law enforcement officers on a pursuit through Whitley and Allen counties before being taken into custody, according to Indiana State Police.
State police said a trooper attempted to stop a white Chevrolet on U.S. 30 in Whitley County for speeding. Investigators said the driver failed to stop and instead fled, leading officers on a chase through portions of Whitley and Allen counties while driving in what police described as a dangerous and erratic manner.
According to Indiana State Police, the pursuit eventually returned to Whitley County, where deputies with the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department deployed a tire deflation device that successfully punctured the vehicle’s tires. Despite the damage, police said the driver continued to flee.
The pursuit ended when the vehicle left the roadway and entered a field near County Road 350 East and County Road 100 South. Police said the driver was taken into custody without incident.
Authorities identified the driver as 30-year-old Tavin Miller of Bellwood, Illinois.
According to Indiana State Police, Miller was preliminarily charged with resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, a Level 6 felony; criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, a Level 6 felony; reckless driving, a Class C misdemeanor; and criminal mischief, a Class B misdemeanor.
The Whitley County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the pursuit and arrest. No injuries to the public or responding officers were reported.
