INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ A section of the Interstate 69 extension from just south of Bloomington to Martinsville is moving forward after the Indiana Department of Transportation received approval to use federal funds for the stretch.
INDOT spokesman Will Wingfield says the Federal Highway Administration approval granted on Friday will allow the use of federal funds to complete the design and acquire land for the approximately 21-mile Section 5.
The section will upgrade Indiana 37 to interstate standards. Wingfield said Monday that land must be acquired for the seven interchanges and five overpasses in the section.
Four teams of contractors are competing to build the section. Wingfield says INDOT expects to select the winning team next February.
