Indiana Man Pleads Guilty in Slashing Death

COLUMBUS, Ind. (AP): A central Indiana man has pleaded guilty but mentally ill to charges that he killed a woman with whom he shared an apartment by slashing her throat.

Thirty-six-year-old Ryan Klug admitted during a Bartholomew County court hearing Thursday that he killed 26-year-old Adaobi Obih on Nov. 17 in their Columbus apartment before fleeing to Texas. Her body was found two days later.

Bartholomew County Prosecutor Bill Nash tells The Republic that Klug still faces a sentence of 45 years to 65 years in prison. Nash says Klug will receive psychiatric treatment while in prison.

Klug told a psychiatrist he was obeying a television message to kill Obih, who was an engineer at Cummins Inc.

Her friends say Obih was sharing the two-bedroom apartment with Klug to save on expenses.
