Indiana Man Shot Over Rifle and Bottle of Cologne

VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) – Prosecutors say a northwest Indiana man fatally shot a friend in a fight over a rifle and a bottle of cologne.

Porter County prosecutors filed a formal murder charge Friday against 34-year-old Abraham Bratcher. The Valparaiso resident Bratcher is being held without bond in the Porter County Jail. He doesn't have an attorney.

The Times reports  that Bratcher told officers he caught 31-year-old Gerid Forste of Kouts taking Bratcher's cologne and assault rifle, and the two struggled for the gun. Bratcher allegedly wrestled the gun away from Forste and fatally shot him.

An autopsy Thursday showed Forste was shot once in the chest and twice in the legs.

The Times says both men had lengthy arrest records.
