Body Found In Colorado Missing Indiana Hiker

EAGLE, Colo. (AP) – Authorities have confirmed that a body found in Colorado's mountains is that of a missing hiker from Indiana.

Thirty-nine-year-old James McGrogan of Chesterton, Ind. disappeared March 14th after he got separated from a group hiking to a backcountry hut. His body was found Thursday north of Vail by a group of backcountry skiers about 4 miles from the trail.

Coroner Kara Bettis said Friday that an autopsy must still be done to determine how he died.

McGrogan was a physician who recently returned to Indiana from Wisconsin to work in the emergency room of St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka.

Fellow hikers said he had food, water, medical supplies, a GPS and other tools. A five-day search failed to find any sign of him.
