Indianapolis Soccer Team Keeping Up Push For New Stadium

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Leaders of the Indy Eleven soccer team aren't giving up on their hopes of a new stadium, saying it is needed for the franchise's long-term success.

The team saw its attendance drop about 6 percent this year after selling out all some 10,000 seats at IUPUI's track stadium for each game during its first season in 2014.

Team president Peter Wilt tells the Indianapolis Business Journal that the current stadium lacks the modern amenities which sports fans have come to expect.

Proposals seeking state support toward an $82 million stadium in downtown Indianapolis failed in the General Assembly this year.

Senate Appropriations Chairman Luke Kenley says the team owner would need to make a substantial investment for a stadium funding plan to advance.
