Indiana Toll Road to Begin Travel Plaza Redevelopment Plan

Verbatim

GRANGER, Ind. – ITR Concession Co. (the Indiana Toll Road) announces the beginning of Phase 1 of its Travel Plaza Master Plan, which will redefine the existing footprint and amenities offered to Toll Road travelers.

This more-than-$30 million massive restoration plan includes the demolition and rehabilitation of eight travel plaza buildings (four eastbound, four westbound). After this project is complete, the newly designed structures will feature modern travel facilities with state-of-the-art technology and new food options.

The Travel Plaza Master Plan initial schedule places project completion by early 2018. With the commencement of this comprehensive project, beginning Oct. 1 ITRCC will permanently close the Steuben County travel plazas and fuel stations (Milepost 146) following analyses determining that location unnecessary to the long-term plan due to the close distance of neighboring plazas. The current MP 146 location offers only fuel and restrooms.

Tentative dates for the full schedule are as follows:

Phase 1: Oct. 1, 2015; Steuben County travel plaza buildings and fuel stations (MP 146) permanently closed. Demolition scheduled for 2016.

Phase 2: April 2016 – August 2016; Portage (MP 22) and Elkhart (MP 90) travel plazas demolished and rebuilt into fuel/convenience stores.

Phase 3: August 2016 – August 2017; Rolling Prairie (MP 56) and Howe (MP 126) travel plazas demolished and rebuilt into full-service plazas.

ITRCC is coordinating with local and state officials. The project should be finished by 2018.
