Indianapolis Fire Destroys Much of Apartment Building

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Dozens of people scrambled to safety as an early morning fire destroyed much of their apartment building in an Indianapolis complex. Fire officials say the blaze was reported about 1:45 a.m. Friday at Woodridge Apartments on the city's northwest side. Fire Lt. Larry Tracy says flames were coming through the roof by the time firefighters arrived. The fire largely gutted the building's second floor. Tracy says 43 people have been displaced from the 16 apartments destroyed or damaged. No residents were hurt. Tracy says a man living in a neighboring complex jumped a fence and knocked on apartment doors to alert residents about the fire.
