LAWRENCE, Ind. (AP): Police in suburban Indianapolis say they have arrested a 17-year-old suspect in the shooting of a 15-year-old outside a high school gymnasium during a boys’ basketball game.

Authorities have not released the names of the suspect or the victim. Both are students at Lawrence Central High School, which faced Warren Central High Friday night. The younger student was hospitalized for a leg wound and released later.

The Indianapolis Star reports the older student was brought by a parent to the Lawrence police station, where he admitted to firing several shots from a handgun outside the gym.

The 17-year-old was preliminarily charged with criminal recklessness with a firearm, possession of a handgun without a license on school property and dangerous possession of a firearm, all felonies.
