FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP): An Indiana man convicted of child abuse for forcing his grandsons on a grueling hike in the Grand Canyon is seeking relief from the U.S. Supreme Court.
 
       The 9th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals had rejected Christopher Alan Carlson's argument that the evidence was insufficient and that the jury wasn't instructed properly.
 
       Carlson filed a petition for review with the nation's highest court in late November. The U.S. government has waived its right to respond.
 
       Carlson was convicted on three counts of child abuse stemming from a 19-mile hike in August 2011 and sentenced to 27 months in prison. He was acquitted of abuse charges stemming from another hike that month.
 
       Carlson acknowledges treating his three grandsons roughly but denies being criminally negligent or endangering them.
