Interstate 65 Remains Closed In Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WOWO): Northbound I-65 remains closed in Lafayette while engineers assess how to shore up a shaky bridge.

INDOT says soil analysts and engineers from the department, a construction contractor, and the Federal Highway Administration are checking soil samples to see why the bridge over Wildcat Creek is settling into the ground.

Depending on the findings, they might try to fix the bridge itself, firm up the ground underneath, or both.

INDOT spokesman Will Wingfield says the department hopes to have an estimate later this week of how long it will take to reopen the bridge. The state has installed temporary traffic lights to smooth traffic flow on the detour.
