INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO) — Two advocacy groups are calling on Indiana lawmakers to act as families face a growing energy affordability crisis.

Indiana Conservation Voters and the Citizens Action Coalition unveiled a Ratepayer Relief Plan, warning that electric bills could rise by more than 16 percent next year.

The plan includes short-term measures to prevent utility shutoffs and long-term reforms aimed at stopping monopoly utilities from passing unnecessary costs onto struggling households.

“Families are already facing high bills, and without immediate relief, more Hoosiers risk losing power,” said a spokesperson for the groups. “This plan provides both immediate support and structural reforms to make energy more affordable for everyone.”

The organizations are urging lawmakers to prioritize the plan ahead of the next legislative session, emphasizing that energy costs are a critical issue for working families across Indiana.
