LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP): A magistrate has given prosecutors three more days to file charges against a jail inmate who escaped custody by overpowering a sheriff's deputy and stealing her police cruiser.
Magistrate Dan Moore on Monday granted prosecutors a 72-hour hold and set bond for 25-year-old Marcus Bramlett at $500,000.
Bramlett surrendered to police Saturday night following a five-hour standoff at a Lafayette home a day after his escape.
A probable cause affidavit released Monday alleges Bramlett struck Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Deputy Jennifer Thompson multiple times, inflicting face and jaw injuries, as she was returning him to the jail from a hospital.
The affidavit says Bramlett went for Thompson's weapon, but she managed to pull over and exit the vehicle.
Bramlett had been arrested May 12 for allegedly battering a law enforcement officer.
