Man Arrested in Sexual Assault of 73-Year-Old Woman

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) _ Bloomington police say an arrest has been made in connection with the sexual assault of a 73-year-old woman during a home invasion last month.

Police Chief Mike Diekhoff says DNA evidence collected at the scene matched the DNA sample submitted by 34-year-old Jerald Honeycutt, leading to his arrest Monday. Honeycutt has been charged with rape, burglary, intimidation, confinement and strangulation. It wasn't immediately known if he has legal representation.

Emergency responders were dispatched to an apartment on June 14. There, a woman said she had been asleep on the couch when she was awakened by a man, who covered her nose and mouth with his hand and pressed his forearm into her throat. She was then sexually assaulted.

The assailant fled after the woman activated her home medical alert system.
