Man Gets 80 Years in Death of Lafayette-Area Girl

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) – A 34-year-old man who pleaded guilty to murder and arson that killed a 6-year-old girl in a house fire outside Lafayette has been sentenced to 80 years in prison.

The Journal & Courier reports  Ryan Moynagh was sentenced Friday. He pleaded guilty last month under a plea agreement that carried a maximum sentence of 80 years in prison. Moynagh could have been sentenced to life without the possibility of parole if the case had gone to trial.

Six-year-old Katelyn Sue Lane died in the fire last November. Moynagh shared the house with a friend of the girl's mother who was babysitting her.

Katelyn's mother, Mindy Kirby, testified that not a day goes by where she feels normal since her daughter died.
