Memory of Afghan Boy Helps Those From his Country

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – The memory of a 16-month-old Afghan boy who died a decade ago after returning home following heart surgery in Indianapolis is continuing to live on through the work of his father and those in Indiana who cared for him.

The Indianapolis Star (http://indy.st/1D2qS3k ) reports that Jim and Roberta Graham of Brownsburg have helped raise more than $310,000 in memory of Qudrat (KOO-drawt) Wardak, who died April 15, 2005, just two days after returning home from Indianapolis.

The money has been used to build two schools and a medical clinic, install a well and latrines and to buy sewing machines and material that more than 100 women are using to generate income. Jim Graham says without Qudrat, none of that would have happened.
