INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – The Indiana attorney general’s office is asking a state board to suspend the license of the Massachusetts specialty pharmacy linked to a deadly meningitis outbreak.

The office on Friday filed the petition asking the state pharmacy board to suspend the New England Compounding Center’s license to operate in Indiana, saying the Framingham, Mass.-based pharmacy poses a threat to public health. Ohio pharmacy officials suspended the company’s license to operate in that state this week.

The pharmacy has said it has voluntarily suspended production. Pharmacy representatives didn’t immediately return messages seeking comment.

Indiana health officials have confirmed 43 cases of fungal meningitis and three deaths linked to tainted steroid injections.

The state pharmacy board is expected to consider the suspension request on Nov. 5.
