BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) – Members of a Bloomington board aren't convinced that designs for a new large fraternity house will make it a good fit for a historic district near Indiana University's campus.

The Bloomington Historic Preservation Commission met Thursday with an architect helping design the new Phi Gamma Delta fraternity house.

The Herald-Times reports the plans call for a 52,000-square-foot, three story limestone house. It is to be built on the site of six houses in the University Courts Historic District that IU officials plan to move or demolish. 

Commission member Jeannine Butler said she worries the tall walls around the fraternity house will harm the neighborhood's look.

Commission member Doug Bruce, though, commended the architects making such a large house look unique.
