NASHVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Nashville's quest for millions in federal money for community development is drawing fire from some residents, who contend they were left out of discussions about which projects to prioritize.

The southern Indiana tourist enclave is one of six finalists for a Stellar Community designation. Since 2010, six Indiana communities have received awards ranging from nearly $10 million to $20 million.
Residents say they support the program but want more input. The Herald-Times reports (http://bit.ly/1ox8KNe ) that petitions are being circulated in Brown County asking the state to table the application and reconsider it next year so the entire community can weigh in on which projects to pursue.
Nashville Town Council President Bob Kirlin says no one was left out of the discussions.
Awards are expected to be announced in early August.
