NASHVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ A prosecutor is seeking to charge a Bloomington man accused of killing an Indiana University student as a habitual offender.
The petition filed Thursday by Brown County Prosecutor Ted Adams could increase the sentence for defendant Daniel Messel if he's convicted.
The 50-year-old Messel is charged with murder in connection with the April beating death of 22-year-old Hannah Wilson of Fishers. Messel is being held without bond at the Brown County Jail in Nashville.
The Herald-Times reports (http://bit.ly/1jE8F8Q) Messel's criminal history includes battery convictions in 1993 and 1995.
The next hearing in Messel's case is scheduled for Dec. 14, with a tentative jury trial scheduled for February 2016.
