One Dead in Fatal Crash Involving Semi on US 24 in Huntington County

HUNTINGTON COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO) – A deadly crash shut down part of US 24 in Huntington County Monday morning, leaving one person dead.

The crash happened around 9:50 a.m. east of County Road 200 East when a westbound Jeep Liberty lost control and crossed the median, said the Huntington County Sheriff’s Department. The SUV entered the eastbound lanes and was struck by a semi-truck in what investigators described as a “T-bone” collision. Both vehicles came to rest in the median following the impact.

The driver of the semi-truck was checked at the scene by medical personnel and did not require further treatment. The driver of the Jeep was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials believe roadway conditions may have played a primary role in the crash. The incident remains under investigation by the Huntington County Sheriff’s Office and the Huntington County Coroner’s Office.

Several agencies assisted at the scene, including Indiana State Police, local police departments, fire crews, Parkview Hospital EMS, and the Huntington County Traffic Team.
