INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Gov. Mike Pence is considering suing the federal government as a way to stop new limits on carbon dioxide emissions.
President Barack Obama announced Monday that power plants would have to curb dioxide emissions under new limits he is proposing. Pence told WIBC-FM Tuesday that he is talking with Attorney General Greg Zoeller about what steps the state should take.
Pence, other Republicans and energy industry leaders say the cap in carbon emissions would wreak havoc on the economy. But environmentalists and the White House say the pollution is contributing to rapidly increasing climate change.
Indiana is heavily reliant on coal, both to supply electricity and as the source of jobs. The new EPA rules would require Indiana to curb its carbon emissions by 20 percent.
