Indianapolis Police Arrest Man in Girl’s Shooting

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Indianapolis police have arrested a man on a preliminary attempted murder charge following a shooting that wounded a 17-year-old girl outside a high school.

Police say 19-year-old William Alvies fled the scene on foot and officers later found his shirt and a handgun. He surrendered Tuesday afternoon after his mother convinced him to turn himself in following the shooting near Arsenal Technical High School.

Detectives say Alvies and the girl had been arguing in a school parking lot when the girl ran from the lot toward the school where she's a student.

Police say Alvies allegedly chased the girl and fired several shots, striking the teen in the shoulder.

The girl made it into the school and was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in good condition.
