Plea Hearing Set For Mellencamp Son In Attack Case

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) – A court hearing has been scheduled for the oldest son of rock star John Mellencamp to plead guilty to charges that he badly beat a man.

Monroe County court records show that the defense attorney for 20-year-old Hud Mellencamp on Monday requested the change of plea hearing that's been scheduled for Feb. 3.

Mellencamp and his younger brother, Speck, have both pleaded not guilty to felony battery charges from July 2013 for allegedly punching and kicking a 19-year-old man in Bloomington who they believed had hit Speck Mellencamp.

Details of a possible plea agreement weren't immediately available. The Associated Press left phone messages Tuesday for Hud Mellencamp's attorney and Monroe County prosecutors.

The Herald-Times reports a Monday pretrial conference for Speck Mellencamp was postponed until March.
